Fuhuadao Pedestrian Bridge
The Fuhuadao Pedestrian Bridge, originally known as Xijiao Pedestrian Bridge, is Zhongshan’s first pedestrian bridge. Completed in November 1989, the 176-meter-long structure spans 4×44 meters and was one of the province’s longest-span pedestrian bridges at the time. The bridge witnessed the city’s development and the historic Charity Parade, holding deep collective memories for many Zhongshan residents.
As a key component of the Fuhuadao upgrade project, the renovation included: demolishing and reconstructing 8 steel stairways, adding 4 elevators, and installing a illuminated canopy. The intersection was expanded from 5 to 7 lanes, adding right-turn lanes in each direction. The renovated bridge features wave-shaped railings, lush greenery below, and 4 elevators that greatly improve accessibility, especially for people with disabilities, seniors, and parents with young children.
