Elevator Retrofitting Projects
Project Overview
Location
East District,
Zhongshan, Guangdong, China
Project Type
Existing Building Elevator Retrofitting
Xiayang Street Building 63

Xiayang Street 63 was the first project to commence construction under the newly issued Zhongshan Existing Residential Building Elevator Addition Management Measures — and only the second successful residential retrofit case in the city. The 7-story building has 12 residential units, with first and second floor owners exempt from contribution, and the remaining 8 units sharing costs based on floor level.
The project was initiated by 68-year-old resident Zheng Xiujuan, who applied to Yijiati on March 22, 2016. After a 310-day journey — including 47 days of resident coordination, material submission on May 7, planning public notice in June, multiple rounds of design revisions, and construction commencement on October 24 — the elevator passed inspection on January 25, 2017. Yijiati completed the entire hoisting process in just 10 hours. This project became a replicable benchmark for the city’s subsequent retrofit efforts, inspiring neighboring buildings to follow — with Xiayang Street 83 subsequently launching its own elevator project.
- 68-year-old resident Zheng Xiujuan — 310-day coordination across 12 households — policy pioneer
- 10-hour integral hoisting by Yijiati — dramatically shortened construction timeline
- First project under new policy — approval time cut by over 1 year vs. the first case — citywide benchmark
